THE FIRST EVER

"When I joined the staff of the Galveston Arts Center, plans were well in the works for Texas Juried Glass. As it fell into place, I grew more and more excited about the possibilities this exhibition introduces. What a wonderful chance to show the rest of the country what Texas artists working in glass are creating today."

"Never before has an organization offered a broad open call for works that use glass as a major component. Never has a panel of jurors made up of an artist from the field, a curator from "the" glass museum in the country and a curator/philanthropist from the region, been brought in to make selections. Never has there been such an opportunity to promote and educate about what is happening now in glass and across this particular state."

"The exceptional quality and variety of works submitted made decisions difficult for our jurors. I would not have wanted to be in their chairs that day, but I am proud to be a part of this landmark exhibition. I hope that it topples perceptions about glass and Texas art and that it brings people to the Galveston Arts Center to learn more about contemporary art now. I also hope that it inspires other states to host their own juried glass shows in the future."

"Congratulations to all of the artists and many thanks to those who made this landmark exhibition possible."
